Cloud resources rot. Buckets, instances, databases — they get spun up for a project and forgotten. Treat them like any other asset.

Mandatory tags

  • `owner` — an actual person's email.
  • `env` — prod / staging / sandbox.
  • `project` — for cost allocation.
  • `expiresAt` — for ephemeral resources.

Inventory mechanics

Pull cloud resource lists via the provider APIs nightly. Reconcile against your ITAM tool — every resource without an owner is a ticket.

Cost guardrails

Budget alerts per project tag; the tag chain points to a human. No tag, no provisioning — implement at the IaC layer.
